Before we pop the champagne, let’s take a look back at 2020

Despite an impossible year that saw us closing our doors in March, our staff and company remained committed to the pursuit of our mission of contributing to a more connected, compassionate, and creative community.

  • Fun Home was a Los Angeles Times Critic’s Choice, Ovation Recommended by LA Stage Alliance, OCTG Recommended by OC Theatre Guild, and was named one of the “Top Ten Shows of 2020” by StageSceneLA.
  • Our 2020 TYA Family Series tackled one of its most ambitious productions — the stage adaptation of the out-of-this-world adventure, A Wrinkle in Time — and the result was a wide-eyed wonder from audiences of all ages!
  • In response to the loss of in-person events, we set up Chance Cyber Chats to continue the honored tradition of having conversations after every Chance performance. In 2020, we gathered together online to discuss 17 different shows that were available to watch online.
  • Our artists responded to the shutdown by producing three original online series, all of which will continue into 2021. “Some Good News O.C.” highlights the positive things happening in our own community, “Chance Encounters” interviews past Chance artists and special guests, and “Stage FAQs” humorously answers your frequently asked questions about the Chance and theater in general.

  • We refused to cancel our Speak Up education and outreach programs for at-risk junior high and high school students, teens on the Spectrum, and local veterans. Instead, the programs moved to a virtual platform, which opened the door for participants from across the country.
  • Several Chance Artists offered Virtual Intensive Workshops on acting, directing, designing, and playwrighting. These workshops were offered for free to all of the Speak Up participants as part of the programs.
  • On October 30, we had our first-ever virtual gala, Chance Theater’s Variety Hour(ish) Telethon, thanks to the amazing work of our artists and Gala committee.
  • Ragtime and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson were just named as two of the “Best Shows of the Decade” by Examiner.com critic, Jordan Young.
  • And we wrapped up the year with a bow by producing our first-ever virtual production, A Very, Very Chance Holiday Cabaret which featured over 20 Chance artists sharing holiday memories and songs. as a surprise gift to the community.

Your support will aid us in our continued commitment to our community, and our efforts to reopen our doors as soon (and safely) as possible!
