This new play will be presented as a reading. Readings are an essential part of the play development process. We are proud to offer this as part of our On The Radar (OTR) New Works Program that aims to support the creation of diverse new stories by emerging U.S. playwrights. Lazy Kinda Free is the story of Zora: a Black graduate student who struggles with severe depression and anxiety. After losing her mother at a very young age, Zora spends the majority of her life excelling in school and living up to her father’s expectations, all while being the primary caregiver for her two younger sisters, Tillie and Davia. When her head becomes so heavy that she is unable to leave her room, Tillie and Davia must learn how to be responsible for Zora instead.
