Meet Matt Takahashi (Angus)Matt-Takahashi

Why do you think the world has been so fascinated with the legend of Nessie?
I think it’s because we, as humans, have a fascination with things that we don’t fully understand. That unknown variable is something that frightens and excites us. The story of the Loch Ness monster in particular has an element of fantasy attached to it and that adds to the overall shroud of mystery.

What is it like to work on a world premiere musical?
It’s unbelievable!  I never thought I would be able to say that I have worked on a “world premiere musical” in my career.  Every day I go to rehearsal not knowing what direction we are going to take. There are no rules or past experiences to look to with a project like this and that allows us as artists to create something entirely new. It’s also an added bonus to have the writers and creative team involved in the process.

What mysteries or legends captivate your imagination?
Many things in our world captivate my imagination. I’d say the most intriguing unknown for me is aliens. I consider myself a scientific person so the idea that there are other life forms in our universe is exciting and seems like a no-brainer to me. I think it would be transformative for us as humans if we ever made contact with extraterrestrials. I’d love to be alive to witness first contact, as long as our alien visitors don’t have a book called “To Serve Man.”

If you met any of the characters on the street, who would you share a pint with and who would make you turn and walk away? And why?
Well if I met Nessie on the street I would definitely have to get a pint with her. Who wouldn’t want to?! I envision a really fun pub experience with Nessie, the Oiler, and Pierre. Seems like a unique group to grab a drink with. I’m sure we’d all be singing pub songs at the top of our lungs after a few pints.

How do you prepare to work on a project like this?
With a brand new project that has never been staged before you have to be very willing to fall down; I mean that both literally and figuratively. You have to be willing to go into rehearsal not knowing where the day will take you, and you have to be very adaptable to the ever-changing situation. Things changed, songs have been re-written, dialogue has been cut and I just try to enjoy the ride.

What excites you about this story and why should people come see it?
Other than the fact that people haven’t ever seen a production of this before, I think this is just a very heartfelt story that people can enjoy and relate to. There are so many great moments and characters that no one should miss seeing this production!
