Meet Desiree York (Assistant Director)

Tell us about your invisible friend, or your “friend’s” invisible friend.
Always pretended to have an invisible pet dog because we were not allowed to have any pets growing up.

Have you traveled overseas? Any interesting stories or experiences?
Unfortunately, I have not yet traveled overseas, but my dream is to live overseas.

If you could speak to your unborn child, what piece of advice would you give?
Life is short. Don’t be paralyzed by the past or waiting for the future. Choose joy, love and peace in the present; it’s all you have control over and more than likely if you choose that now, your future will have a better chance of having joy, love and peace in it too.

What’s your favorite baby picture? Can you share it with us?
It’s one with my older brother holding me – he was my best friend.

If you met any of the characters on the street, who would you share a pint with and who would make you turn and walk away? And why?
I would choose to engage with Suraiya as she exhibits a strength and compelling journey which I admire and draws me to know her more.

Do you have a favorite moment in the play?
My favorite moment is when Suraiya kisses Amit on the forehead so that he will never forget her.

What do you connect to in this story?
I connect with the stories of Katie and Suraiya who long to fulfill what they believe is their mothers’ dreams for them. They both make discoveries along the way about their own identities and have to make choices about who they really want to become.
