Meet Bradley Lock (Costume Designer)
What modern amenity would be the hardest for you to give up?
I would die without Instagram, sad but true.
If you had a time machine, which time period would you like to live in?
If I had a choice I would honestly probably go back to the ’20s. It was a time of change and rethinking of how the world was working. That being said “Let others praise past times for I am glad I was born in these.”
If you were to start a role playing community, what would it be? And, who would you be in it?
I would start a drag community where everyone had to dress as the opposite sex. I would be the RuPaul of it all.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
Some would say this to not be true, but I am a very modest/timid person. I have a lot of personality but get nervous and shy when put on the spot.
What’s the biggest challenge for you in this production?
The biggest challenge is just staying true to the period without being campy. The more truth I can bring to the design the more interesting and deeper I feel the play will become.
What do you connect to in this story?
I connect most with this story because, even though I was born into this era of technology and constantly being able to be reached, I much prefer a pencil and paper to an iPad and I hate being expected to respond to texts or emails within 5 minutes of receiving them.
How do you prepare to work on a project like this?
RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. Also as a designer you kind of have to psycho-analyze the characters you are designing for. You have to find out TRULY who they are in order to find the perfect look for their outside appearance.
What was your first job in theater?
My first job in theatre was adding grommets to 1 million vest/dublets for a period show at my undergrad. I was literally sent to the basement by myself for 5 days straight hammering in metal grommets on EVERYTHING!
