Meet Scott Well (Scott/Dad/Others)
What excites you about Celtic Music?
Celtic music is intimate story-telling shared by members of the community. This musical sharing takes place in pubs all around the British Isles, and its often magical when the music connects with the story to complete the tale.
Since the band is also the cast, what are the challenges of doing double duty?
Musicians sometimes approach performing music in a somewhat different way than acting, so finding the common ground is the key. To become one with the music and other musicians, and at the same time perform for the audience as the character being portrayed is the goal.
How was the process of being part of the creation of a new show?
Like a walk into the unknown, trying to make sense of it all so others will get the message we intend.
We know that the show is dedicated to the memory of David McCormick, a founding member of Craic in the Stone and a Chance Resident Artist. Do you have anything you’d like to add or share about David?
He was an inspiring and powerful performer, drawing energy from the audience, and then giving it all back and more. We were inspired to write original songs about him for this show. He was the quintessential warrior; but with love, sensitivity, and intelligence. He brought all these qualities to his performances. We miss him greatly.
Do you have a favorite moment in the play?
I hope to create one in every performance.
What do you connect to in this story?
The musical interaction with a group of talented musicians, and having an opportunity to celebrate my family roots in the highlands of Scotland.
How do you prepare to work on a project like this?
Live with the music, perform the music, tell the story of the music in a unique way. We have been writing, arranging, and performing together for almost two years, and we hope that “real band” connections com through.
What was your first job in theater?
Eigth grade; Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew. Oh, job means paid?
What excites you about this story and why should people come see it?
The concept of a Celtic band doing a concert while telling a personal story, and then adding a layer of ancient Celtic holiday tradition is unique. We think everyone will enjoy the music and story we share, because we are all connected by the history and the music. Our modern holiday season is a perfect time to enjoy this.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
If you were around in the late 70’s and early 80’s, you may have known me by my DJ name “Scotty McKay”. I adopted my maternal grandmother’s Scottish clan name as a stage name for my DJ career, and nobody knew my real name during that era!
