Artist Profile
Rovin Jay has been a part of the theater community for over 30 years, first as an actor/singer and then as a director. As an actor, he has absorbed the lessons learned from the best aspects from directors that he has admired and respected throughout the years, and applied his own experiences to his own directing. As a director, Rovin collaborates with his actors to make every production fresh and unique.
Recognized for the depth and detail of his immersive storytelling, Rovin’s approach to directing is a hybrid of traditional and post modern in style. Productions that he has directed include Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, Seven Guitars by August Wilson and Flight by Charlayne Woodard, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Rent, Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Once on This Island. Rovin is the founding Artistic Director for Village ArtReach, a non-profit organization dedicated to enrich, inspire and transform the lives of children in the foster care system, non-minor dependents and underprivileged families who otherwise do not have the access to the performing arts.
