Steven Stanley with StageSceneLA had plenty to say about our virtual production of The Story of My Life

Through a series of songs, each more tuneful and evocative than the next, we get to know two very different men, one of them a talented, confident man who dreamt big and the other, the introverted, troubled friend he left behind.

The Story Of My Life is as gorgeous to listen to as it is deeply touching, especially as brought to life by ace director [Matthew] McCray, who elicits superb performances from both his stars.

[Dillon] Klena has gone from child actor to full-fledged adult star, with huge things ahead. (Older brother Derek, watch out!) His Thomas is equal parts commanding and charismatic, and like his costar, Klena’s vocals soar.

[Wyn] Moreno’s sunny boyish exterior hides a complex, conflicted soul as unfit for big-city life as he was for a life without Thomas by his side. That Alvin is about as far removed as possible from Next To Normal‘s Dan or Ragtime‘s Tateh is a tribute to Moreno’s versatility.

Theater lovers can rejoice in this online season opener.

And if you’re anything like me, even if you’re watching it at home all by yourself, you may find yourself cheering loudly, neighbors be damned, when Dillon and Wyn take their curtain-call bows.
