Meet The Man Who’s Had Enough, an overworked and under-inspired single guy who’s a dull hue of blue in a city of vibrant red and green.  So he’s made a New Year’s resolution: stay home and go to bed early. His plan is going swimmingly until an incandescent salesgirl knocks on his apartment door and threatens to chase away his winter doldrums for good.

But this isn’t your average feel-good holiday show. Striking 12 combines musical comedy sensibilities, a tuneful pop/rock/jazz score, and old-fashioned uplift to create something wholly original, created by Tony Award-winning writer Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and the piano/violin/drum theatrical power trio, GrooveLily.

Featuring songs like “Screwed-Up People Make Great Art,” “Give The Drummer Some,” and “Fine, Fine, Fine,” Striking 12 is an alternative to the traditional seasonal fare that ignites the holiday spirit with an electrifying, rockin’ performance that cannot be matched.

“The cast is a nimble quintet of singer/musicians who trade off on lead vocals as well as playing an array of instruments that include keyboards, cello, electric violin, drums and other percussion.”
Orange County Register

“Chance Theater is taking a bit of a chance on a Christmas musical that few if any will have heard of before, but give Striking 12 a chance. It’ll grab you from the get-go and set your heart ablaze with holiday warmth and cheer.”
StageSceneLA

“Sheinkin’s Off-Broadway holiday musical is an unforgettable urban fable, a unique hybrid of musical theatre and live concert, mixing dry satire of young inner-city professionals in the retelling of the 1845 Andersen story. The show has since become an exception to the mandatory Christmas sappiness occupying most entertainment venues at this time of year.”

Audience Buzz

    1. Unexpectedly complete delight. 5 extremely talented performers play multiple parts, sing, dance, and play instruments. Very original storyline which meshes perfectly with the tale of “The Little Matchgirl”. The woman who plays the little match girl has a face that lights up the stage! The entire show was so well done and so well written. Amazing.
