On the Cripe Stage…

Jane Austen’s enduring love story is brought to life as a romantic-comedy musical. The story revolves around Emma, a well-meaning, but disaster-prone matchmaker, who ignores her own romantic feelings while setting out to find a suitor for her friend Harriet. Her efforts go awry, of course, leading to comic complications. We invite you to fall in love again with one of Jane Austen’s most adored characters, featuring an intelligent and buoyant score from Tony-nominated composer Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre).

The stage set was nicely done, the actors and actresses’ performance were wonderful. We also really enjoyed the songs. The play was both touching and hilarious. I can’t stop smiling when Harriet kept singing “Mr Robert Martin…” with that glowing expression of affections. I would sum it up with just two words — super awesome!

The comedic timing, the expressions of the actors, the voices spectacular and the sound quality was really good. I will definitely look into this theater for future performances. I realize I had a smile on my face the entire time. The facial expressions of the “farmer” were hysterical. Loved the lyrics and the idea of puppetry. I was also very impressed with the theater itself. Intimate and not a bad seat in the house.

    34. I was wondering how the music would be incorporated into the story. I felt the lyrics of the songs told Austin’s story beautifully even better than the original spoken words. The actors articulated the lyrics so that no story line or feeling was lost.
