UPDATED October 16, 2020

“Little Women – The Broadway Musical” has been canceled

Once again, we held out making this decision as long as we could, hoping against all odds that something would change that would allow for us to perform this popular holiday musical for audiences who are undoubtedly in need of something light-hearted this year. However, CDC guidelines and state-ordered health mandates will simply not allow us to re-open our doors, so we are officially canceling our Holiday Literature Series production of Little Women – The Broadway Musical. No matter how desperately we all want to get back to the Bette Aitken theater arts Center to start creating and experiencing art again, it’s not even an option when a health risk still looms large over our community. We remain committed to playing our part in bringing an end to the spread of this pandemic.

In accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and under the continued direction of Governor Gavin Newsom, we believe it is in our community’s best interest to have taken the following actions:

  • Canceled our spring Chance-a-thon fundraiser
  • Canceled our season productions of The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Actually, Billy Elliot the Musical, and Significant Other
  • Canceled our Holiday Literature Series production of Little Women – The Broadway Musical
  • Canceled our OTR staged readings and workshops of Shooter!, Resident Playwright Krista Knight’s new play, and Adam Szymkowicz’s commissioned play
  • Canceled our TYA production of Fancy Nancy, The Musical

We are grateful to all the artists and production partners who have been impacted by this upheaval and we hope to bring them all back to our stages soon.

If you have tickets to any of these productions and did not yet receive an email regarding the cancellation, please send us an email or call our box office at (888) 455-4212 on Tuesday-Friday, between 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Your ongoing support is deeply appreciated and absolutely vital as we deal with the devastating loss of over $500,000 in earned income this year. However, we will continue serving our community every way we can, including going virtual with our Veterans Speak Up program. We will also be continuing our Chance Cyber Chats, Broadway Chance Style events, as well as episodes of “Some Good News O.C.,”Chance Encounters,” and “Stage FAQs,” as well as our Chance Flashback Series. Plus, we will be announcing new programs soon to offer entertainment and more chances for connection during this time of isolation.

We truly hope that you are staying safe and healthy so that we can see you when we are allowed to get together in-person once again.

Most sincerely,

The Chance Team
