Artist Profile

Jocelyn L. Buckner has a M.F.A., Ph.D. and is Assistant Professor of Theatre at Chapman University, where she teaches theatre history, dramatic theory and criticism, dramaturgy, co-leads the London Theatre Tour, and mentors thesis, honors capstone, and independent student research projects. Her research and publications focus on identity politics and affect in theatre and popular entertainment from the nineteenth to twenty-first centuries. She is the editor of the anthology A Critical Companion to Lynn Nottage (Routledge, 2016), and has published peer reviewed articles and book and performance reviews in African American Review, American Studies Journal, Ecumenica Journal, Journal of American Drama and Theatre, Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism, Popular Entertainment Studies, Theatre History Studies, Theatre Journal, Theatre Survey, and Theatre Topics (forthcoming). She has served as the dramaturg for The Chance Theater’s On the Radar New Play Series in 2016 and 2017, and on productions of Maple and Vine, Bright New Boise, and Seminar.
