Meet Katelyn Spurgin (Ensemble)

What’s your favorite way to communicate your feelings to a loved one?
I love communicating through words. I am an avid reader, and a huge lover of Shakespeare, so being able to communicate feelings in a deep, thoughtful way is definitely my choice of love languages. The fact that this show is about communicating through letters really got me excited!

Have you ever had a work-related romance? If so… how’d it go?
I have never had a work related romance.

Write out your personal ad.
Independent single woman seeking friendly, outgoing man. Loves movies, books, and going to the beach! A true romantic at heart.

Tell us about something that happened on a blind/first date.
Interesting fact about me: I have never been on a first or a blind date. Ever.

Do you have a favorite moment in the play?
My favorite moment in the play is when Georg brings Amalia ice cream when she is sick. It’s his moment of clarity and her moment of confusion all mashing together into a beautiful scene. It’s funny and sweet and crazy all at the same time!

What do you connect to in this story?
As I said earlier, words are my love language, so this show is so perfect for me. The lost art of writing letters and the excitement of receiving one is something I cherish. Being able (or not being able) to write down how you feel to someone you’ve never met is a scary and adventurous thing to do. I love how the true selves of the characters come out in that way, making us able to see both sides of them.

What excites you about this story and why should people come see it?
I love the simplicity of this story. It is a love story, and while it may seem old fashioned in this decade, it still touches us because it is nostalgic and whimsical. I think people should come see it because it is in a category all its own. We’ve connected with the story in all it’s different forms, but here we’ve added songs, and true emotion and feeling come out when people sing. It adds an entirely new element to the show.
